A successor to the Neo Geo Pocket, it was fully backward compatible. Despite early success with 14 launch titles, competition from Nintendo’s Pokémon, the upcoming Game Boy Advance, and Bandai’s WonderSwan impacted sales. Financial troubles led to SNK’s acquisition by Aruze, and the NGPC was discontinued internationally in 2000, lasting in Japan until 2001.
