Neo Geo Pocket Color (NGPC)

The Neo Geo Pocket Color (NGPC) is a 16-bit handheld console from SNK, released on March 16, 1999, in Japan, and later in North America and Europe. A successor to the Neo Geo Pocket, it was fully backward compatible. Despite early success with 14 launch titles, competition from Nintendo’s Pokémon, the upcoming Game Boy Advance, and Bandai’s WonderSwan impacted sales. Financial troubles led to SNK’s acquisition by Aruze, and the NGPC was discontinued internationally in 2000, lasting in Japan until 2001. Known for its “clicky stick” joystick and vibrant games like *SNK vs. Capcom*, the NGPC remains a celebrated console.
